Emergency housing assistance has two different ways to help. Emergency housing will be able to help if you are facing an immediate threat of homelessness. It can also help if you are unable to pay your rent which will lead to homelessness. Below we have information and resources if you need help dealing with either situation
Find Emergency housing
If you are facing homelessness, these programs can help you find temporary housing
Dial 211
In most areas of the U.S., dial 211 to connect with local social services and referrals for emergency housing.
Find shelters near you

Emergency housing for special groups
Youth emergency housing
Contact the National Runaway Safeline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (1-800-786-2929), for free, confidential, and non-judgmental support 24 hours a day. It also offers free transportation home or to other safe, stable housing.
Veterans emergency housing
Contact the National Call Center for Homeless Veterans at 1-877-4AID-VET (1-877-424-3838), for free and confidential information 24 hours a day.

Emergency Renters Assistance
If your need help paying your rent there may be a state sponsored program to assist you. Since these programs are not federally funded, each state has its own rules on elegibilty and amount of assistance. Please click the button labeled, "Emergency Renters Assistance," located in the left column.
Rental Assistance
Government programs that help people with low incomes find affordable rental housing.
Since every state has different requirements, application processes, and perhaps totally different programs, you will need to contact your local pubic housing agency

Government rental assistance programs provide an important service for those in need of affordable housing. The qualification requirements are pretty similar for each of these programs. You may qualify based upon one or all of these:

Section 8 Housing (housing choice waiver)
With a housing choice voucher, you can find your own private housing to rent. Housing choice vouchers can pay for all or part of the rent. The vouchers are for families with low incomes, seniors, and people with disabilities. You can use them for privately owned single-family homes, townhouses, and apartments.

Public Housing
Public housing is designed for people with low incomes, seniors, and people with disabilities at rents they can afford. Public housing comes in all sizes and types, from single-family houses to high-rise apartments. Local public housing agencies (PHAs) manage public housing properties.

Subsidized Rental Housing
In subsidized housing, the government pays apartment owners to offer reduced rents to tenants with low incomes. Learn how to find this type of affordable housing.
Each city or county has its own eligibility rules for affordable housing. To find out if you are eligible, look up and contact your nearest public housing agency.
